Potential Open Geospatial Consortium Standardization

Hello,

you mention in your description that you are searching for the best way to establish UCUM as a broadly-used international standard. I am working on a project in which we plan to use UCUM and OGC standards, and I am also interested in broad UCUM adoption and standardization. I talked to Carl Reed of the OGC and asked what might be an appropriate path for UCUM in OGC or ISO. The OGC has a relationship with ISO; GML and WFS started out as OGC specifications and were eventually taken over by ISO. If you are interested in discussing further standardization Carl recommended that you get in contact with him (creed AT opengeospatial.org). The referenced document describes a technical means to represent naming and definitions for UCUM units, but does not address the standardization and management aspects that is the core issue for this ticket.

If there is still interest from the UCUM group in OGC (and possible path to ISO) adoption of the standard in a non-technical sense, I believe this remains an open issue. I am certainly still interested in such.
