Codeset - preferred display terms

Description

I was wondering if you had considered a standard for how some of these UOM should be displayed (in print or on screen) to avoid errors or confusion. This is particularly important to application of certain UOM in ordering and prescribing of medications e.g. microgram vs mcg or ug.

As described in the document(s) we try to keep out of this business. Various ISO and CEN standards and others may be specifying these things, we try to keep out of this. This will help us to remain without having to conflict with JCAHO issue with "μg" vs. the most horrible "mcg" that they propose.

ISO/FDIS 11240 addresses this question. It is built "on top" of UCUM, uses UCUM as a reference system to address display symbols, translation of long names, mapping to other code systems.
